Warner Bros. Reveals First Mogwai Footage for Gremlins 3

The loveable Mogwai is finally coming back to the big screen! Warner Bros. revealed on X the first teaser footage for Gremlins 3, giving fans a peak at the next chapter of the hit 1984 comedy-horror. Unfortunately, it also comes with a new release date.

The movie has been pushed back by nearly a year. With a previous theatrical release date of November 19, 2027. The teaser reveals that we can expect to see Gizmo in cinemas on October 8, 2028. It has been 35 years since Gremlins 2: The New Batch so what is another year? Let them cook.

On the positive side, an October release date feels a natural home for Gremlins. Putting the third movie right in the middle of spooky season, the perfect way to unleash these furry little monsters. Which may I point out look to be practical! Cinema is finally healing and going back to using physical puppets in movies. Honouring the original legacy of the franchise and the practical foundation used for some of the most iconic creatures in movie history.

The original Gremlins featured Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan), after his father gave him the lovable Mogwai Gizmo as a Christmas present. But caring for a Mogwai has some very specific instructions.

  • No 1: Keep your Mogwai away from bright lights and direct sunlight will kill them.
  • No 2: Keep them away from water. Whatever you do don’t give them a bath!
  • No 3: The most important one. Don’t ever feed them after midnight.

Billy learned those rules the hard way when Gizmo multiplied and his hometown was terrorised at Christmas, by the mischievous Stripe leading the chaos. The sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch took the creature feature to New York City and cranked the chaos up. Bringing us some ridiculously fun mutations along the way.

Zach Galligan starred in both movies and remains active in the franchise. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him return as Billy, although it is worth noting nothing official has been announced.

I don’t know about you but I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes us. The original film, directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus, is one of the greatest blockbuster movies of the 80’s. It combined comedy, horror and creature-feature tropes of a classic B movie to create a massive hit that is widely regarded today as a cult classic.

Will Gremlins 3 recapture the practical-effects charm and unhinged humour of those first two movies? We’ll have to wait until October 8, 2028.

First Look at Lex Luthor in Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn has posted a first look at Nicholas Hoult, as Lex Luthor, suited up in his iconic green and purple Warsuit. The official, behind-the-scenes picture was shared across social media platforms with the message “fit check” in his post.

Man of Tomorrow will see Superman (David Corenswet) and his nemesis Luthor in the uncomfortable position of working together against a much bigger threat to Earth. Although previous set leak pictures debuted the new look back in June of this year, you can see Hoult wearing the suit below.

The iconic suit made its official debut in Action Comics #544, in 1983 and it’s awesome to see that it’s finally coming to the big screen!

Gunn has told fans that the premise for Man of Tomorrow, “is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together, to a certain degree, against a much, much bigger threat, and it’s more complicated than that. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”

What is this bigger threat I hear you ask? Well actor Lars Eidinger has been officially cast as Brainiac. A super intelligent alien in the DCU who seeks and hoards all universal knowledge for himself while leaving a trail of destruction. Those familiar with the Super-Villain will know that he is one of Superman’s most dangerous enemies and the one responsible for shrinking the Kryptonian capital, Kandor for his personal collection.

Man of Tomorrow will continue the new DC Universe when it hits cinemas 9th July, 2027 (current release date). In addition to Hoult, Corenswet, and Eidinger, its cast includes Aaron Pierre, as the Green Lantern John Stewart, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. While Adria Arjona, Matthew Lillard and Andre Royo have also joined the cast in mystery roles.

Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 – Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 has arrived and I don’t know about you but this has me so hyped for what is about to come! Rosario Dawson is back as the fan-favourite Togruta Jedi (or is she?) while Hayden Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker. Seeing Hayden back in that role brought tears to my eyes as it would appear he is receiving much more love this time round for his portrayal of the fallen Chosen One.

Meanwhile Grand Admiral Thrawn, portrayed again by Lars Mikkelsen, is making his move against the Rebel Alliance. Setting the galaxy on fire as he takes revenge for the fall of the Galactic Empire.

And somewhere in Peridea, a mysterious and distant galaxy outside the known star system. Baylan Skoll, who is now played by Rory McCann after the unexpected death of Ray Stevenson, is seeking knowledge that could change everything.

Needless to say this season of Ahsoka looks to be an interesting one in the next chapter of Star Wars. After being introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s one and only Padawan in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. She soon became a central character to the franchise starring in the animated Clone Wars series, Star Wars: Rebels and then making a leap into live-action with The Mandalorian. Since that final realisation of her character, Dawsons Ahsoka has brought with her many other beloved characters such as Sabine, Hera, Ezra Bridger and Captain Rex.

 

What are my final thoughts?

We didn’t get to see much of Rory McCann (The Hound in Game of Thrones) as Baylan. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the character and I’m looking forward to seeing the mystery of his actions unfold. What is he seeking? and how does it tie into the Mortis Gods?

Thrawn was a big moment for me when he appeared in Rebels for the first time and seeing him return to be a threat to the New Republic has so many possibilities to explore. The hard part will be delivering the full potential of this character and his abilities that make sense to the overall narrative of the current Star Wars universe.

And finally… Seeing a young Ahsoka and Anakin together again was one of the highlights of this teaser for me. I am excited to watch Season 2 expand on that relationship even more with this story. Seeing Hayden Christensen back brings me so much joy!

New Photos of DUNE From Denis Villeneuve’s

Denis Villeneuve’s Offers a First Look at the Ensemble Cast of Dune

A set of new photos have emerged online from director Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Dune, by Frank Herbert.

The photos show off Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in his stillsuit, while we get our first look at the rest of this impressive cast. Starring Rebecca Ferguson, as Lady Jessica Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. We also see Zendaya as Chani, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

In his interview with Vanity Fair, Denis Villeneuve confirms that this will be a two-part film. This is great news! The story is vast and detailed, by adopting this tactic,  I think it will give Dune fans the film adaption it deserves.

I have complete faith in Villeneuve and I can’t wait to see what they’ll show us next!

Behind the Scenes on Restoring Micheal Keaton’s Batman

While wandering the web I came across this fantastic video on DC’s Youtube channel that shows the work that went behind bringing the 1989 Batsuit back to life.

As part of 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con fans got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see eighty years of Dark Knight history up close. Authentic props and costumes were on display for “The Batman Experience” and I wish I could of experienced it! No collection of Bat-costumes would be complete without Michael Keaton’s suit from the 1989 movie. However, years of exposure had left his iconic costume in a degraded state.

In the video below, watch how Ironhead studios restored the suit back to its full glory.

Adult Swim released an exclusive Rick and Morty anime-style short film titled Samurai & Shogun, and it is a lot of fun! Drawing inspiration from the “Lone Wolf and Cub” manga series, which was turned into several feature films through the 70’s.

The short follows the adventure of Rick as he fights a group of evil Ninja Ricks.

First trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has finally arrived!

I loved this first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It feels fresh and I think the concept of a couple of kids slowly discovering something incredible about their grand-dad is wonderful.

This next chapter in the original movie universe looks to focus on Egon Spangler’s family, who move to a small town where they learn about their grandfather’s legacy. Unknown to them, he was a member of the Ghostbusters!

It might not be the sequel that fans imagined but straight away it brings back memories of when I first discovered Ghostbusters. Probably around the age of our young actors shown here and that gets me excited! Damn you nostalgia!

 

Directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman (involved in the first two Ghostbusters). The script is written by him and Gil Kenan. The movie stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are also said to be returning.

Trailer Released For New SUPERMAN: YEAR ONE Comic Series

Check out the release trailer for DC’s upcoming comic book series Superman: Year One. Created by writer Frank Miller (Dark Knight Returns) and artist John Romita Jr (Kick-Ass).

This new and exciting, three issue story line, will retell the origin story of Superman.

Here’s the synopsis:

“Superman: Year One is a coming-of-age story for the future Man of Steel, featuring a young alien-boy just trying to find his place in a new world. Faced with the need to hide his heritage and powers in order to survive, Clark will find his humanity through the grounding of the Kent family and the relationships that will define the man he will become. Told by two of the most revered voices in comics, Superman: Year One is more than a superhero story – it’s about the choices made by Clark Kent on his path to becoming a legend. It’s a testament to the importance of choosing to become a hero.”

I love what Miller did with Batman in The Dark Knight Returns, a comic book I would recommend as a must read! So it’ll be interesting to see what he does with Superman. The title already following the footsteps of his previous work, Batman: Year One

The first part to this new story will arrive this month, 19th June.  Followed by issue No. 2 in August and No. 3 in October. Then all three issues will be released as a single volume in November.

In this post we look to shed some light on those who have helped create iconic characters, games and movies. People that are the very heart of modern day pop culture.

Phil Tippett is not a household name but you will know his work. The Oscar-winning stop-motion animator, and designer, is responsible for many fantasy creatures and sci-fi set pieces. Creating aliens that defined the diversity of Star Wars, to seamlessly merging practical animation and CGI in Jurassic Park. ‘My Life in Monsters’, chronicles Tippett’s legendary life work, his influence on pop-culture and is a must watch!

Tippett has returned to his origins and is currently involved with his ongoing “Mad God” animation series. You can help support his work through Kickstarter.

Leaked Star Wars: Episode IX Poster

Star Wars: Episode IX Promo Poster revealed

A promo poster for Star Wars: Episode IX has found its way onto the web. This must of been for internal use only and has somehow slipped out of Lucasfilms web of secrets. What is interesting is that the poster reveals a lot of what fans can expect from the last film in the trilogy. This is more than likely a mock up, so a lot of elements shown in this poster are subject to change.

Our Thoughts:

As you will see in the image, the poster shows our heroes in new outfits, with Rey (Daisy Ridley) wielding the Skywalker lightsaber that looks to of been repaired. We can see our favourite rebel starfighters flying off in various, unseen colour schemes; while a new variant on the TIE fighter has snuck in at the bottom. What has got a lot of people excited is that the Knights of Ren will finally be revealed, along with new elite red Stormtroopers. There are two mysterious new characters set to one side; the rebel fighter believed to be Lando’s (Billy Dee Williams) daughter and a bounty hunter, possibly Keri Russells character?

Kylo Ren has his helmet back, which has been repaired too. C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) holds Chewbaccas Bowcaster (god knows what is going on there). A new rumoured robot sidekick appears next to BB-8 and lastly a stupid looking slug like alien behind Finn (John Boyega).

Personally I am not a fan of the poster. There is too much going on. Streaks of light criss-crossing, going up and down, while flaring out in the background. It’s over-crowded and just looks like there’s no thought behind it. This doesn’t get me excited for the film but it does peak my interest.

What do you guys think? Star Wars: Episode IX is currently set to be released on December 19th, 2019.
