Warner Bros. Reveals First Mogwai Footage for Gremlins 3
The loveable Mogwai is finally coming back to the big screen! Warner Bros. revealed on X the first teaser footage for Gremlins 3, giving fans a peak at the next chapter of the hit 1984 comedy-horror. Unfortunately, it also comes with a new release date.
The movie has been pushed back by nearly a year. With a previous theatrical release date of November 19, 2027. The teaser reveals that we can expect to see Gizmo in cinemas on October 8, 2028. It has been 35 years since Gremlins 2: The New Batch so what is another year? Let them cook.

On the positive side, an October release date feels a natural home for Gremlins. Putting the third movie right in the middle of spooky season, the perfect way to unleash these furry little monsters. Which may I point out look to be practical! Cinema is finally healing and going back to using physical puppets in movies. Honouring the original legacy of the franchise and the practical foundation used for some of the most iconic creatures in movie history.
The original Gremlins featured Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan), after his father gave him the lovable Mogwai Gizmo as a Christmas present. But caring for a Mogwai has some very specific instructions.
- No 1: Keep your Mogwai away from bright lights and direct sunlight will kill them.
- No 2: Keep them away from water. Whatever you do don’t give them a bath!
- No 3: The most important one. Don’t ever feed them after midnight.
Billy learned those rules the hard way when Gizmo multiplied and his hometown was terrorised at Christmas, by the mischievous Stripe leading the chaos. The sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch took the creature feature to New York City and cranked the chaos up. Bringing us some ridiculously fun mutations along the way.
Zach Galligan starred in both movies and remains active in the franchise. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him return as Billy, although it is worth noting nothing official has been announced.
I don’t know about you but I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes us. The original film, directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus, is one of the greatest blockbuster movies of the 80’s. It combined comedy, horror and creature-feature tropes of a classic B movie to create a massive hit that is widely regarded today as a cult classic.
