Trailer Dump: Star Wars Resistance, Iron Fist & Maniac

Welcome back to another steaming trailer dump, featuring shows and movies from Disney’s Star Wars Resistance to Netflix’s Maniac. If you’ve missed out and let any new trailer’s slip you by, now is a time to catch up with some of the most prevalent future releases. Without further ado, dig in and hopefully find something to get excited about! First up…

Star Wars Resistance

The newest Star Wars show has released it’s first trailer, and this one is definitely geared more toward a younger audience. Not massive fans of the art style. This doesn’t look quite in the same vein as Clone Wars and Rebels. This is one for the kids to enjoy and perhaps fans of the sequel trilogy will to as it features the return of fan favourite Poe (Oscar Isaac), and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), set before the events of The Force Awakens. Find more Star Wars stuff here.

Iron Fist Season 2

After a lacklustre first season and disappointing team up with The Defenders, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns as the Iron Fist. Now brother fights brother, as Davos believes he is worthy of the Iron Fist and becomes the Steel Serpent to fight Danny. This trailer also shows us a first look at the Daughters of the Dragon. Hopefully this season will do better. You can get your Marvel products here.

Widows

Steve McQueen’s new film looks like it’s going to be a hit. A surprising twist on your typical heist movie as the widows of murdered crooks must now take it upon themselves to help their families survive. With big money stars including Liam Neeson, Jon Bernthal, Viola Davis and Michelle Rodriguez. Written by award winning author Gillian Flynn, known for Gone Girl. This is quickly becoming a highly anticipated movie.

Next Gen

Netflix continues to pump out quality content, and their new animated movie Next Gen looks like no exception. On par with the best of Disney Pixar and Dreamworks, it looks like there is new competition in town. Set in the near future where robots are aplenty, a young girl is dismayed with the world they live in until she makes friends with an experimental robot. It’s easy to make comparisons with other films like Big Hero 6, but this looks very heartfelt and great family fun. Hopefully we can get more animated feature films from Netflix. Featuring the voices of John Krasinski, Michael Peña and Constance Wu.

Arizona

The 2009 housing crisis hurt a lot of people but apparently hit Sonny (McBride) the hardest, an incompetent criminal out for revenge, takes Realtor Cassie (DeWitt) hostage as he tries to get his own payback. This looks like a fun twisted dark comedy, where things can’t help but take a turn for the worse. Coming out August 24th.

Green Book

This powerful trailer shows the unlikely true friendship of bouncer Tony Lip (Mortensen) and pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Ali) as they navigate through the prevalent racism of America using the Green Book. There is a lot of talent amongst the main two actors alone and the energy they radiate just throughout this trailer gets us excited for the movie. A story from 1962 that seems relevant today. Will you be watching?

Climax

This dance party gets deranged in the bizarre trailer for Climax which is Step Up on drugs. This looks like it will be a visual feast and highly entertaining, though perhaps not for every average move goer. This comes from Gaspar Noé, known for the cult classic movie trips, Irreversible and Enter The Void. This looks like another entry into his mind bending filmography. We’ll have to wait and see what this movie has in store for us.

Slaughterhouse Rulez

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up for this dark comedy that is St. Trinian’s meets Attack the Block. Releasing on Halloween in the UK, it also stars Asa Butterfield and Michael Sheen. When a school sells off it’s land to an oil fracking company they accidentally unleash demons on their students. It looks like it’s going to be a fun romp.

Maniac

This is another superb looking mind melting movie from Netflix. Starring Jonah Hill, Emma Stone and Justin Theroux as they partake in an experimental, psychological drug trial. “Pain can be destroyed.” This is my kind of movie spanning multiple genres under one funky seventies sci-fi roof, as Stone and Hill explore each other’s minds. Netflix looks like they will be stepping up the stakes set out by the Norwegian series of the same name. This short series looks like it can do great things for both Stone’s and Hill’s career, as it’s unlike anything they’ve previously done. Warning! You may get serious Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind vibes.
